The area of SamYan in Bangkok is well-known for hosting an abundance of traditional shophouses that have been leased through many generations. From survey conducting, owners of those shophouses hold great emotional value towards the community they are in. However recently, newer buildings such as condominiums and shopping avenues are being built to replace the long existing shophouses in order to satisfy the demand of the growing generation of nearby inhabitants as well as renovate and keep the area up to date.
This project illustrates an abstract response to the situation in order to suggest an alternative way in which traditional shophouses and newer buildings could co-exist in limited space, even though they might seem to be visually in conflict.
